On November 18, 2020, the Ķekava Municipality Sports Agency signed a grant agreement with the European Commission, within Erasmus+ sports program to implement project “Carpet bowls for everyone/CARE” that ahoud be implement from 01.01.2021. until 31.12.2022. The project is designed to promote a carpet bowling game that is suitable for people of all ages. And thus, it is planned to involve an increasing number of people in health-promoting physical activities, so that the activities are different and regular, as well as to promote cooperation between people of different generations.

The second meeting of the project partners of the Erasmus + sports project “Carpet bowls for everyone / CARE” implemented by the Kekava County Sports Agency took place in Holstebro, Denmark, from 21 to 25 February 2022, with participants from Turkey, Norway and Italy, Latvia and Denmark. The host organization, partners from Denmark (Danish Gymnastics and Sports Association), had prepared an extensive program.

During the meeting, the expert group discussed the content sections of the handbook on carpet bowling promotion to be prepared within the project, the necessary information, its sources, preparers and deadlines. The visit also included several meetings with various types of local organizations and their representatives who are directly involved in organizing events for seniors. A number of senior activities events were also attended to share experiences in organizing such events in Denmark.

One of the most interesting experiences was participation in the senior night “krolf” (a combination of cricket and golf) tournament. Seniors with headlamps tried to conquer the holes in the specially designed area with as few hits as possible, like fire flies in the dark. After the competition, everyone gathered together to award the winners and discuss their experience together.

On the second day of the meeting, the participants had the opportunity to take part in the Holstebro senior event “Active Thursday” and the carpet bowling tournament. “Active Thursday” is an event where seniors gather to engage in various sports and various physical activities together. The main motto of the event is to participate and be together to socialize, so the result has a secondary role and they are not fixed.

The next project meeting is scheduled for May, in Turkey, where the host organization will be the municipality of Nilufer.
